Rob Smith
With more than thirty years of operational and HSE leadership across energy, clean-tech, and infrastructure sectors, Rob Smith brings a depth of experience that spans field operations, corporate strategy, and complex international projects. Backed by a Master’s Degree in Disaster and Emergency Management, dual undergraduate degrees in Geography and Outdoor Recreation, and a long-standing registration as an Advanced Care Paramedic, he has built a career on developing practical, scalable safety systems that work in real-world conditions. His expertise includes safety management systems, operational reliability, COR auditing, organizational change, and high-stakes emergency response.
As a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) and holder of extensive industry certifications - including Certified COR Auditor, TapRoot Investigator, H2S Alive, and specialized instructor qualifications - Rob has led organizations through cultural transformations, risk-reduction programs, dual-fatality investigations, and performance turnarounds. His leadership has supported major clients across Alberta’s oil sands, Kurdistan, Trinidad, and Canada’s mining, exploration, and infrastructure projects. His work has contributed to milestones such as projects achieving one million hours without an LTI, nine consecutive years maintaining COR for remote medical services, and multiple recognitions including the BHP Billiton Contractor Award of Recognition for four years of zero LTIs.
Beyond his operational accomplishments, he has invested deeply in the advancement of industry standards through long-term roles on safety committees and best-practice groups, including the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, the Canadian Association of Geophysical Contractors, and Energy Safety Canada’s COR Audit Protocol Review Committee for more than fifteen years. Rob's commitment to service extends into the community through volunteer work supporting animal rescues, youth programs, housing initiatives, and Indigenous advocacy, as well as years spent coaching local youth sports.
At the core of Rob's career is a simple philosophy: align leadership intent with frontline execution to create workplaces where safety, reliability, and performance reinforce one another.
